Forge of Light
Forge of Light
Alchemy of dancing bodies about the forge of light:
Swirling blue-gray crusts
Of thickening flesh.
Cresting the tides of the sun
In horizons of song.
Gates in the abyss —
Stations of force,
Holding the spell of gravity
That draws matter inward — a circling hunger
Like a waiting beast.
This room of heat, flashing rays,
Warms the cool black depth:
Vacuum quilt of eternity.
The old names —
Standing unbroken against the ruins
Of overthrown regimes,
Defaced civilizations.
We are come and gone among bones:
Rolling the die of the body
Into compressed blood:
Relinquished
Into the sea of passing identities.
Amniotic, we gasp
In a brief elemental symphony.
Touching the fire of stones; their inward mass.
Unbound by the time of insects and moony ferns.
An isle,
Unbeaten by seas.
Let foreign forces throw their meteors;
Cast their pebbles.
From slingshots,
We are Davidic
To Saturnian might.
Arms and legs of flesh and blood
Twitch in their terrariums.
Thrown over couch cushions, duvets;
Blinded in an opiate idiocy.
We are turned and fed
By magnitudes beyond comprehension —
Yet the bone knows what the mind cannot hold:
The flesh, remembering
The fire of stones
Clashing in the silence
Of starry song.
