The Mechanical Constitution of Baseball History
The Mechanical Constitution of Baseball History

The Mechanical Constitution of Baseball History
Baseball history is a moving sky.
The sky is not metaphor.
The sky is:
Run Environment (RE) = League Average Runs per Game
RE is the total scoring output of the system.
It is the emergent result of:
Geometry
Ball physics
Strike zone definition
Talent density
Defensive structure
All boundary conditions resolve into one observable value:
Average runs per game.
That is the atmosphere.
RE does not adjust for the era.
RE is the era.
The Two Mechanical Actions
There are only two actions in baseball:
Creating runs
Preventing runs
Everything reduces to these.
Once RE is declared:
Hitters measure how much of the sky they claim.
Pitchers measure how much of the sky they erase.
No secondary correction is required.
The Measurement
Dominance is:
Individual Run Impact ÷ Run Environment
Where:
For hitters: Run Impact = Runs Created per 9 (RC9 or equivalent)
For pitchers: Run Impact = Runs Allowed per 9 (RA9)
RE already contains the geometry of its time.
When RE rises, the sky widens.
When RE falls, the sky compresses.
The denominator moves with history.
The structure of measurement does not.
Scale and Meaning
A number alone has no scale.
A 3.00 ERA means nothing by itself.
In a 3.50 sky, it reflects modest suppression.
In a 5.50 sky, it reflects severe suppression.
A 1.00 runs-created rate means nothing by itself.
In a 3.50 sky, it is massive.
In a 5.50 sky, it is smaller.
RE gives thickness to numbers.
Without RE, performance floats.
With RE, performance has density.
The Structural Law
Baseball history is not a ladder of improving talent.
It is a sequence of atmospheric states.
The sky moves.
The measurement does not.
Pitchers erase fractions of the sky.
Hitters claim fractions of the sky.
Everything else is commentary.
