The World of Dreams
The World of Dreams
The World of Dreams
The world of dreams spills into the world of the living
Like black blood.
We who glimpse horrors
Trickling from the mind of the old reptile dragon;
Flowing forth like ancient vapors,
Ancient suns.
Into the day we cast our beloveds
To be crucified
In our serpentine uncertainty.
She is nothing but a toy;
He is nothing
But an imago.
And thus we dance
Upon the graves of all things past;
Forefathers, foremothers.
From their mouths
We breathe
Into the thin and narrow reed of time.
This image is the image of history
As it is the image of all time.
In dreams, we grasp the beloved
By the fleeting touch
Of the illusion of planets
Meeting in space.
She dances away from me
Even as I reach toward her.
Perpetually teasing.
No woman in the world
Can bear this weight.
